What is the best rum for a mojito?

The answer is obvious. The best rum for a mojito is Timber Botanical Rum! As a botanical rum, Timber is a smooth spirit and this makes it the standout base spirit for a mojito. We don’t artificially colour Timber Botanical Rum with caramel, so it can be used as the traditional light rum base for a mojito.

The exact history of the mojito is unknown, but what we do know is that its basic origins are in Cuba. The forerunner for what we now know as a mojito was perhaps originally a drink that was seen as having medicinal benefits (we’re talking back in the 16th century, in the days of Sir Francis Drake). The mix of lime juice, the base cane spirit, the sugar and the mint leaves creating the view that it was something of a tonic. However the drink was popularised more recently, with the first recipes for the mojito itself being seen in the early 20th century.

As we mention above, white or light rum is the traditional base for a mojito. Timber Botanical Rum is light golden in colour and we think it makes the perfect colour base for a mojito as you can see from the picture. Timber is also slightly sweeter in taste than other types of rum, so in our mojito recipe we cut down a bit of the additional sugar that you might normally see.

A mojito is a simple and refreshing cocktail. Muddle lime juice, sugar and mint leaves in a tall glass before adding the Timber, ice and topping up with soda water. Stir and garnish with mint leaves. As perfect on a summer day as a winter night!

So we think the best rum for a mojito is a Timber Botanical Rum. It’s smooth, light and has the sweetness that makes for the perfect mojito serve. Enjoy Timber in your next mojito by shopping direct from the Timber online store. Cheers!
