What’s the best rum for a Rum Sour?

A classic Sour is a mixed cocktail drink using a base alcohol liquor, something sweet, a touch of sourness and something to add a bit of froth!  It is often made with whisky, but why use that when you can use Timber Botanical Rum and get that natural sweetness coming through!

There are loads of variations, and we have suggested one in our serves section we think you might like and have also provided some alternatives too.

For the ingredients you’ll need something sweet.  A Sour usually uses a simple syrup (see our website for how to make a simple syrup under our “Serves” section).   But we have used maple syrup our recipe.  A sour, by it’s very name, also needs sourness added to it.  We’ve used lemon juice.  It also uses an egg white to get that recognisable froth with a rich velvety viscosity and cocktail feel.  But don’t let put you off if you do not fancy it; just leave it out!

We prefer to chill the glass beforehand as this keeps the drink nice and cold.  Find out how we made ours and alternatives on our serves page.

You can experiment with flavours too.  You can replace the maple syrup for a simple syrup, or honey.  Replace the lemon with a lime, or use a touch of orange juice.  Keep the egg white or just don’’t use it, it’ won’t affect the overall taste; some bitters can be used which provide a foam.
